How Long Do Frozen Soft Pretzels Last?
Short answer: in the freezer, in their original packaging, an authentic Bavarian soft pretzel keeps about six months without losing quality. Here’s the longer answer — and how to reheat one so it tastes like it just came out of the oven.
Frozen storage: up to 6 months
At 0°F in the original packaging, the flavor and texture hold from day one to day 180. This is exactly why we ship our pretzels frozen instead of “fresh” — flash-freezing replaces every preservative the supermarket version relies on. (More on that in our story.)
Thawed but not baked: within 24 hours
If you’ve thawed a pretzel and changed your mind, keep it refrigerated and bake within a day. You can refreeze it once, within 24 hours, without losing quality — the crust and chew survive one freeze-thaw-refreeze cycle.
Baked: eat the same day
Once it’s baked, a Bavarian pretzel is meant to be eaten warm, that day. It doesn’t keep like a shelf-stable snack, and that’s the point.
How to reheat without drying it out
Thaw 20–30 minutes, brush with water, salt, and bake 3–5 minutes at 350°F. In a hurry, microwave from frozen in 15–20 second bursts (softer, no crust). Air fryer at 325°F for 3–4 minutes is a good middle ground. Full instructions on our Prep & Storage page.
Why we ship frozen in the first place
Our pretzels use five ingredients — flour, water, yeast, salt, oil — and nothing else. No preservatives means the only honest way to get one to your door tasting right is to freeze it the moment it leaves the oven. Order a pack and see: shop all pretzels.
