How to Throw an Oktoberfest at Home (Starting With the Pretzels)
Oktoberfest runs late September into the first weekend of October, and you don’t need a tent in Munich to do it right. You need good beer, the right mustard, and authentic Bavarian soft pretzels — the real thing, not the mall version. Here’s how to put it together, and how much to order so you don’t run out.
Start with the pretzels (and order enough)
In Bavaria, the pretzel isn’t a side — it’s the centerpiece. For a party, our Bulk Pretzels (160 oz) feeds 25–40+ people with a mystery mix of Brezels, giant Nobel Bavarians, and bites, and it ships with free Dusseldorf mustard. Smaller gathering? The Big Appetite pairs three giant Nobels with 100 bites, and The Weekender is the easy four-Brezel starter. Everything arrives flash-frozen; bake what you need, freeze the rest.
The mustard matters
Authentic Bavarian pretzels are served with Dusseldorf mustard — sharper and tangier than yellow mustard. Several of our packs include it free. Set out a few small bowls so guests aren’t crowding one jar.
Beer pairings that actually work
A Märzen (the classic Oktoberfest lager) is the traditional match — malty enough to stand up to the salt. A Helles or a wheat beer works too. If you’ve got a Cincinnati crowd, a local Oktoberfest release keeps it regional.
How to serve them warm all night
Bake in batches as people arrive rather than all at once — a fresh-baked pretzel is best the same hour. Thaw, brush with water, salt, and bake 3–5 minutes at 350°F. Full method on our Prep & Storage page. Keep a tray going and they’ll disappear.
Order in time
Pretzels ship flash-frozen in 2–3 business days, lower 48 — Fast shipping price determined at checkout; ships in two to three business days. Order the week before your party so they’re in your freezer with room to spare. Questions on quantity? Call 513-851-2900.
